AP have been tracking the number of pig carcasses floating down
rivers that feed into Shanghai for nearly two weeks. The count stands at 13,996 as at 20 March 2013.
In their place, I would be hellish worried about the whys and whatnots,
and whether the potable water is er, potable. Yet it seems Shanghai
residents have been kept in the dark but nevertheless told not to worry.
It seems fairly typical of the mainland authorities that residents know
not much about the sources of the pigs or how they may have died.
Officials have told residents their
drinking water is safe, while authorities have censored microblog posts
suggesting that the public organize peaceful protests.
As if that was the end of the matter, almost a thousand dead ducks were found to have been dumped into a river in Sichuan.
I'm waiting impatiently for the next instalment...
